Youth Hostel Garden
Area: 2,000 square metres
This small garden is situated at Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, next to Ribeira de São João.
The space opened in 1992 as a Youth Hostel integrated in the old house of traditional Madeiran architecture.
At that time, when the garden itself was rehabilitated, the old trees were kept and new species brought from the Madeira Botanical Gardens were added. Two old mango trees, that still bear fruit, stand out tall and magnificent.
Although small, this garden possesses a remarkably rich flora, where tropical and subtropical evergreen plants are predominant.
